Smitty.
Well! My battery died tonight on the way home. The fucker has been on its last legs for weeks, but I've been working so much overtime and being so lazy and distracted that I haven't done anything about it. I still technically haven't, as the tow truck driver did all the work. I love being a Triple A member... TripTiks, GuideBooks, and free tows up to 7 miles!
It managed to die one exit away from mine and next to a call box, which was safe. I first called Anne and told her what happened, as my phone's battery was also on its last legs (gah!) and I knew that if she was there, she could help me. So, she agreed to meet up with me right away. Then I called the AAA 800 number and gave all my info, and was told that someone would be there in 20 minutes. Meanwhile, traffic sped by and I sat there feeling a little foolish.
Anne showed up and I got into her car and we talked about the time her battery died, and other things. The guy showed up, did his thing, and followed us to my house.
He unloaded Smitty into my driveway. He tried to start him, but the engine wouldn't even turn over, so he said that it's probably my alternator, not my battery. Then he looked under my hood and we saw how corroded my battery is, and he said maybe it's the battery. I am rooting for battery because the little battery light has been flickering for a while now, and I've been meaning to go get a new one anyway. In fact, I called tonight and made plans to do so. I really thought I'd be able to make it home and then to Sears.
I know exactly nothing about cars/car maintenance. I need to change that.
So. We'll see what the deal is in the morning. And I do mean morning. I have to get up early to call the tow truck again. Again.
