My niece drew a picture of us for me. I've never been given a drawing like this before. I am going to frame it.

But I Remember. [07 Jul 2004|01:58pm]

So I headed over to my mom's on Saturday afternoon. I was told that there would be a BBQ, and my brother might even be there. On the way up, I received a call informing me that they (Mom and Jim, Shelby and Eric) were going to see Spiderman 2, and they wouldn't be around.
I arrived and read and watched cable and then I started to clean the pool, as I wanted to swim. I just bought myself a bathing suit, and it wasn't completely horrifying, quite the opposite, actually. I wanted to go swimming. As I was cleaning the pool, as I circled the perimeter for probably the twentieth time, they drove up. I helped them unload groceries, and then I asked Shelby if she wanted to go swimming, and she said yes. She put on her bathing suit, which is a modern marvel. It has a built-in life jacket floaty device, and it makes her look like there is a barrel underneath her swimsuit. It keeps her floating, and that's what counts.
So Shelby and I swam and raced across the pool, and then everyone else joined us, and Eric and I played catch and it was nice and low-key. The jacuzzi was a welcome respite, and it felt so good to swim and dive and hold my breath and wear goggles and all that fun pool stuff. We had sloppy joes for dinner (the barbecue was moved to Sunday, which made more sense probably), and then I painted my and Shelby's nails and we all watched dodgeball on the Game Show Network. My favorite team was comprised of some people dressed up like mimes, and they were called Silent But Deadly.

Sunday morning, I got up early, had breakfast with everyone, and headed up north. I took some pictures while I was driving.

I passed San Onofre and then thought, I should take a picture. So I aimed my camera behind me and got this one.
Soon after, traffic slowed down for the first of four times.

Further north, things slowed down again (a flipped SUV), and I noticed this guy hanging out of his window, trying to chat up the ladies in the convertible in front of him.

Since I don't have air conditioning anymore, my window was down, and I heard the whole thing. I couldn't help but think of David Cross ("Hey pretty pretty..."). I took a picture and soon I passed them, and I didn't get to find out if they ever hooked up. I'm thinking no.
After I got on the 101, I saw a car spin out and then turn around and end up actually facing traffic. It happened right in front of me. I was so shocked and worried that I didn't even think to get a picture of what happened. Then I snapped out of it and captured the image on an empty freeway in front of me and the man who helped the lady who spun out. Another guy helped her push her car to the shoulder.

I picked up David and we headed back down to Hollywood, as Oxnard is Oxnard.
We went to Meltdown, where I was able to catch up on issues of Stray Bullets. Then we went to Amoeba, where I was able to catch up on all kinds of stuff. We crossed the street because I'd been telling him about the dome at the Arclight.
Yeah, I'm too lazy to get a decent angle.
It was determined that Spiderman was humping the dome. David then bought a drum machines have no soul bumper sticker from the guy in front of Amoeba.

I have to go to work now, I'll write more later.

Now I'm really excited about going to the Comic-Con because I just finished volume 4 of James Kochalka's Sketchbook Diaries and I want to get the ones I am missing at the Top Shelf table!
